Outside of my research, I enjoy staying informed through educational YouTube content on history and economics, and I maintain an active lifestyle through CrossFit.

Hi, I am an orthopedic surgeon trained at Seoul National University Hospital, with a subspecialty in orthopedic oncology. I am focusing on applying engineering approaches to improve the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal tumors. I hope to contribute to advances in orthopedic oncology and translational medicine.

My goal is to tackle urgent medical problems and ultimately help save lives. Right now, I am working on technologies for rapid, personalized antibiotic treatment for patients with bloodstream infections, while also exploring liquid biopsy approaches for early cancer detection using blood samples. I’m Wonjun Lee, a bioengineering researcher working in synthetic biology, with a focus on DNA synthesis and related upstream processes. My current work is particularly focused on developing scalable and high-fidelity workflows for cell-free, sequence-verified DNA selection, facilitating seamless integration between synthesis and downstream applications.
Outside of work, I stay active with workouts, soccer, and tennis. I enjoy cooking and pairing food with drinks, mostly as a way to unwind.

I am interested in infectious disease diagnostics, especially in translating results into clinically meaningful insights in areas where rapid and accurate decision-making is essential, such as sepsis and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. I'm interested in capturing cell–cell interactions, especially the clinically meaningful interfaces that might reveal new biomarkers. Most of my work is about cell-surface markers that matter in cancer and autoimmune disease, using laser-based retrieval methods to enrich specific biomolecules that would otherwise be hard to detect. More broadly, I want to understand how biomolecules behave at cellular boundaries at such occasions and what it takes to actually see them. Outside the lab, I spend a lot of time swimming.
